Passing Down Indigenous Community Farming Wisdom and Learning Modern Techniques TTDARES Holds “Reinvigorating Indigenous Village Spirit Class” in Community of Jiana

2022-10-20
To train farmers and boost agricultural production in Indigenous communities, the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TTDARES) of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan held the 2022 Reinvigorating Indigenous Village Spirit Class in Haiduan Township’s Indigenous community of Jiana on October 7.
The class focused on propagation techniques for special Indigenous crops, the production of incense cones made from these crops, and the Teacher Chang Consultation Service. The TTDARES stated that there is a huge variety of special Indigenous crops, and with the introduction of modern germplasm preservation techniques, we will be better able to ensure the transmission of these crops to future generations. In addition, with instruction on their diverse applications, the crops are getting a value boost. The class helps with both the transmission of Indigenous community farming knowledge and ensuring the preservation of the crops.

TTDARES researcher Su Bing-duo initiates the class with a speech. TTDARES associate researcher Xue Ming-tong discusses sexual propagation technique for special Indigenous crops. TTDARES assistant researcher Chen Jing-wen discusses asexual propagation technique for special Indigenous crops. TTDARES associate technician Lin Zhen-ru demonstrates how to make incense cones with material from special Indigenous crops.
